Beautiful vintage Rare Rita Ferguson, Scotland, lapis lazuli and sterling silver necklace. It is a fusion of art nouveau and art deco styles. The necklace has a large oval lapis lazuli cabochon prong set in an openbacked silver setting. It has a detailed decorative silver leaves and berries design fixed to a solid silver arc shaped half torque with a silver chain with toggle clasp closure. The central cabochon measures approximately 3.6 x 2.6 cm . The clear internal diameter of the torque part measures approximately 16.5 cm wide x 9 cm . The necklace measures approximately 20 inches (52 cm). Weight is 60 grams. It is unmarked but has provenance by family descent. It is estimated to date from the 1930's to 1970's. It is in very good condition.
Rita Ferguson was an Edinburgh silversmith who had a studio on York Place and then worked from 214A Braid Road, Edinburgh. Notably she made the Edinburgh freedom of the city casket that was presented to Sir Winston Churchill.
